NEW CANAAN – On Tuesday, State Rep. Tom O’Dea (R-125) AND State Sen. Ryan Fazio (R-36) hosted a legislative update event to break down the recently-concluded legislative session.

Over three dozen residents joined the New Canaan state lawmakers in the Town Meeting Room at Town Hall to provide updates on legislative priorities and ask questions on issues like housing, development, state finances, education, and more.

“Thank you to the dedicated community members who fostered a positive and productive discussion on the most pressing state issues in New Canaan last night, it is a great honor to serve you in the General Assembly.” Rep. O’Dea said. “It is true that our best legislation comes from our neighbors – your involvement in the legislative process is greatly appreciated.”

Representative O’Dea and Senator Fazio explained the bipartisan work that went into producing a state budget featuring a first-in-a-generation tax cut for the middle class and historic levels of local education funding. Additionally, the lawmakers addressed bipartisan legislation aimed at reducing energy costs and expanding access to sustainable nuclear energy.

Both members of the New Canaan delegation, Rep. O’Dea and Senator Fazio explained the unified support of lower Fairfield County legislators in opposition to an omnibus housing bill, containing language on “Fair Share” – a proposed upheaval of state law on housing development which would require a town like New Canaan to endure a near 25% increase in total housing stock. New Canaan is 99% developed.

Representative Tom O’Dea is the Deputy House Republican Leader, representing the 125th Assembly District of New Canaan, Darien, and Stamford.
