VERNON -Rep. Tammy Nuccio, R-Tolland, recently served as a guest reader for Read Across America month at Lake Street School.

Rep. Nuccio visited first graders in Ms. Gluhosky and Mrs. Chep’s classes where she read “In My Heart: A Book of Feelings” by Jo Witek, which teaches kids how to handle different emotions, such as happiness, sadness, bravery, anger and shyness. Sen. Gordon and Rep. Nuccio also recently visited the Willington Public Library to take part in Read Across America Day earlier this month.

These are terrific events that encourage reading among students. The National Education Association launched Read Across America in 1998 as a year-round program to celebrate reading. Dr. Seuss’ birthday is in March and was declared Read Across America Day, which kicks off Read Across America Week and Read Across America Month.
