Rep. Nuccio Issues Statement in Response to Governor Lamont’s Budget Proposal for FY 2024-2025

HARTFORD – Rep. Tammy Nuccio, R-Tolland, issued the following statement in connection to Governor Lamont’s proposed FY 2024-2025 Budget, which he unveiled Wednesday while addressing the Connecticut General Assembly. Nuccio is the Ranking Member of the legislature’s Appropriations Committee, which provides key oversight of the budget process.

“Today, Governor Lamont addressed the joint legislature to introduce his proposed bi-annual budget. At first glance, I am optimistic. The Governor has heard the cries of Republicans and the majority of our residents and has included much needed relief in the form of an income tax reduction,” Rep. Tammy Nuccio said. “Families earning less than $50,000 a year would pay no state income tax while those earning up to $150,000 would see a reduction in their tax obligation of several hundreds of dollars.  Budgets are complex and the devil is often in the details, and I look forward to digging into those details to look for more savings for the people of Connecticut.”

She continued: “As proposed, the budget would maintain the fiscal guardrails that Republicans helped put in place during the 2017 budget, including caps on revenue and spending, it provides funding for small businesses and includes a multi-million-dollar investment that would allow developers to quickly build new housing to address an inventory shortage.”

“House Republicans have repeatedly called for tax cuts, and I’m encouraged the governor has coming around to our calls for financial relief for the working class, businesses and families. That being said, budgets can change as the legislative process progresses and I am hopeful we will hear all voices during the appropriations process. We will find a way to maintain these programs, while also bringing much needed tax relief in a fiscally responsible way.”
