HARTFORD–I strongly oppose the decision to penalize Avelo Airlines for its contract with the Department of Homeland Security. Avelo has been a valuable partner in Connecticut, providing affordable air travel and boosting our local economy through its operations at Tweed New Haven Airport and Bradley International Airport. Punishing a company for fulfilling a lawful federal contract undermines economic growth and fair governance principles.

The proposed expansion of the Trust Act to target businesses like Avelo sets a dangerous precedent, overstepping state authority and infringing on federal jurisdiction. Immigration enforcement is a complex issue that requires cooperation, not knee-jerk retaliation against companies supporting our state’s infrastructure. I stand with Avelo and urge my colleagues to reconsider this misguided approach, focusing instead on policies that strengthen our communities and respect the rule of law.
