Republicans Offer Plan to Curtail Governor’s Executive Authority

Today, House Republicans offered a reasonable path forward to re-establish the legislature as a co-equal branch of government.

Our plan would require that leaders from both parties, in consultation with the governor, undertake a thorough review of all the outstanding executive orders Governor Lamont has put in place over the last year. They would then report their findings back to the General Assembly by April 15, where votes in both chambers would have to take place by April 21 in order to extend or ratify those orders.

Unfortunately, majority Democrats rejected our ideas during a House vote before choosing to extend Gov. Lamont’s emergency powers to May 20.
