MONTVILLE – The Mohegan Sun Casino officially opened a new $80 million, 250,000 square foot Expo and Convention Center yesterday morning. The facility will host an array of trade, consumer and association shows and events. Local legislators, including State Representatives Kathleen McCarty (R-Waterford), Mike France (R-Ledyard), and Holly Cheeseman (R-East Lyme), were in attendance to celebrate alongside Mohegan Tribe officials.

(L to R) Reps. Mike France, Holly Cheeseman, Kathleen McCarty, Senators Cathy Osten and Paul Formica.

The lawmakers fought tirelessly this session to rally support for the Mohegan and Mashantucket-Pequot Tribal nations – who have to date brought in over $7.5 billion in revenue to the State of Connecticut – when a bill came before the General Assembly that would risk financing for the MMCT Ventures’ East Windsor project and lead to the loss of thousands of jobs across the state. The representatives successfully stopped this bill from passing through the Senate.

The Earth Expo & Convention Center includes the 125,000 square foot, column-free Earth Expo, a ballroom that can be divided in two, free parking, an eight bay loading dock from an open parking field and additional drive-in access, 15 meeting rooms, an executive boardroom with a private outdoor terrace, outdoor space including a wrap-around terrace, a kitchen and “state-of-the art” technology and amenities.

The center has created about 300 permanent and construction jobs
