Yesterday, House Republican Leader-elect Vincent Candelora and members of the House Republican Caucus met outside the Capitol in Hartford for an important press conference calling for immediate action to help the state’s struggling business community; especially as they navigate through various unforeseen financial issues that are the result of a global COVID-19 pandemic. Our requests include calling on the governor to use COVID-19 funding towards the Unemployment Trust Fund, to allow businesses to defer property tax payments until April 1st and to suspend the new Connecticut tax on workers for paid FMLA.

A recent article in the Hartford Courant noted that over 600 restaurants have closed their doors already, and other businesses are also barely getting by. It’s imperative that we focus our efforts and attention on providing the necessary help that businesses need at the moment and ensure we’re not adding any additional burdens.

Below you will find a press release and letters detailing the full list of our requests to the governor and Connecticut’s federal delegation.
