Tax Free Week Kicks Off on Aug. 21

HARTFORD – Starting Sunday Aug. 21, and continuing through Aug. 27 the state’s 6.35% sales tax on clothing and footwear will be dropped for purchases that are less than $100. Jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, watches and similar items are not included.

With inflation, high gas prices and so many taxes heaped on us by the state, we could all use a break just in time for the beginning of the school year.

Public Hearing on Insurance Rate Increases Set

As you may have heard, insurance companies have proposed increasing rates in Connecticut in 2023 for individual and small group markets by an average of more than 20%. The increases could impact 200,000 people statewide. Some of these increases are due to government mandates placed on these insurers through legislation passed by the Democrat majority, which continue to make it harder and more expensive to do business in Connecticut.

HARTFORD- State Representative Gale Mastrofrancesco (R-80) earned a 100% voting record for all roll call votes taken on the floor of the House of Representatives during the 2022 legislative session.

The House Clerk’s Office recently released data showing that Rep. Mastrofrancesco had cast a total of 265 votes, giving her a perfect record.
