State Representative Jesse MacLachlan visited Daisy Ingraham Elementary School in Westbrook on Monday as part of Read Across America Day. Rep. MacLachlan read “I Am Not Going To Get Up Today” by Dr. Seuss to 3rd grade students from Daisy Ingraham Elementary School in the morning and then “Salt in His Shoes” by Deloris Jordan to 3rd grade students from Killingworth Elementary School students in the afternoon.

Established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998, Read Across America Day takes place annually on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’ birthday. The nationwide event encourages children and teens to read through a series of events, partnerships, and reading resources. Now in its 23rd year, it has become the largest reading event in the country.

“It’s always a pleasure to spend time with students during Read Across America Day and encourage the joys and benefits of lifelong reading,” Rep. MacLachlan said.
