Sen. Witkos, Rep. LeGeyt Ring Bells for Salvation Army in Avon
Avon – Senator Kevin Witkos (left) and Representative Tim LeGeyt (right) participated in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign by ringing bells at the Avon Walmart on Wednesday December 13 alongside Jim Gordon (center), Immediate Past President of the Avon Chamber of Commerce and the retired Director of Marketing & Public Relations for the Salvation Army in Southern New England.
The state lawmakers collected over $1,300 in donations from the generous Avon community.
“I ring the bell for the Salvation Army to help support the thousands of individuals who receive aid of all types from this organization throughout the year,” said Sen. Kevin Witkos, Deputy Senate Republican President Pro Tempore. “The Salvation Army provides food, clothing, comfort and care to local residents as well as people in need. The holidays are a wonderful time to join efforts throughout the state to give back to those most in need. I want to thank all those who made a donation. Every contribution goes a long way to help others.”
“I’m pleased to continue supporting The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign year after year in order to help our neighbors in need,” said Rep. Tim LeGeyt of his eighth year of partnering with The Salvation Army and Walmart . “Championing the mantra that ‘need knows no season’, The Salvation Army continues to provide financial assistance and resources to our neighbors in need not only during the holiday season, but also throughout the year. It is important we do all we can to support this very worthy cause, and I’m very happy to do I can to bring awareness through this great annual event.”
Services provided by the Salvation Army include food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.
Walmart will also be making a contribution to the Salvation Army on behalf of all participating legislators.
