Last week, I joined BSA Troop 75 in Preston in celebrating Jacob Searcy’s Eagle Scout accomplishment. I presented Jacob with a Legislative Citation in honor of the excellence he has achieved in this great journey of his.

As part of his major project, Jacob recently worked alongside of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Connecticut Delta Waterfowl at West Thompson Lake to help grow and preserve the duck population. The group completed a project of building and installing over 20 nesting structures for ducks in the areas that surround the lake. Jacob was awarded the Connecticut Delta Waterfowl “Volunteer of the Year,” in February to add to his impressive resume of service to our local area.

Jacob dedicated 348 hours of service to his Troop and community in achieving the ranks of Eagle Scout. During this time, Jacob earned 33 Merit Badges along with 1 Bronze Palm. Among these are the badges of camping, hiking, citizenship in nation, farm mechanics, first aid, and communication.

He began his involvement in the Boy Scouts of America in March of 2022 and earned the leadership positions of Outdoor Ethics Guide from 09/21/2022—09/01/2024, and Senior Patrol Leader 09/01/2024—3/19/2025. Jacob is also decorated with the Historic Trails Award, the Totin Chip, as well as the World Conservation Award.

Over the last several months, I have had the honor acknowledging so many young people here in our District. These accomplishments are an absolute pleasure to celebrate, and I cannot wait to see what is next for Troop 75 in Preston!
