Homeschool Informational Hearing Wrap Up
Posted on May 7, 2025
On Monday at our State Capitol, the Education and Children committees held a Homeschooling Informational Hearing that drew thousands of homeschool families from across Connecticut. In recent weeks, many have expressed their concerns to me after the majority Democrats called this hearing in response to the troubling story of neglect and abuse that has come to light in Waterbury. Although investigations into that situation are ongoing, it is clear that action needs to be taken once all findings are finalized.
Like many, I am concerned that Democrats are now unjustly targeting the homeschooling community due to this disturbing incident. The homeschool community comprises thousands of Connecticut residents who have chosen to educate their children at home, which is their right as Americans. To target this group without any factual basis undermines our constituents and disrespects our legislative process.
I had several concerns over some of the concepts raised during the hearing including a DCF inspection requiring home school parents provide “equivalent instruction” to their children and to submit a health questionnaire that would include the type and quantity vaccines they give to their children. I had questions for several panel members from Monday’s hearing, you can view them by clicking the link below. It is my hope that no further action will be taken against homeschoolers, and I will keep you updated on any developments.
To all homeschoolers- I will always support you!
