Veterans Day 2021

On Thursday, there was such beautiful, simultaneous ceremonies throughout the 45th District on the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month. This marked the 100th Anniversary since the first Armistice Day was designated in 1921 to honor World War I Veterans and in 1954 was expanded to all veterans. This year I had the pleasure to attend the event at Veterans Park in Jewett City. Seeing many from the very young to our seniors coming out to honor our brave men and woman who served always makes me so proud to hold office as your state representative. I was particularly touched by the release of the white doves and the beautiful and most heartfelt rendition from Griswold High School’s Chamber Choir.
Veterans Day 2021, we paid respect and homage to those who put the greater good of our country over themselves. Throughout our history, the examples of the selfless acts of the men and women who answered the call to serve our country are embedded in the fabric of what this country has become. Throughout numerous threats to our democracy and way of life in the past, there are countless stories that will be told. The importance of Veterans Day cannot be overstated. From the American Revolution, to the GI’s in the 1940’s that liberated Europe and prevented & protected America from a madman, to our enlisted in the 2000’s ripping a tyrant from his bunker in Iraq to SEAL Team Six ridding the world of one of the worse terrorists to ever walk this planet, we reflect on the great lengths everyday Americans have gone to keep our country free.
The numerous sacrifices that the brave men and women of our country have made since the birth of this great nation is front and center today and every day. Americans from coast to coast, from different backgrounds and religions continue to come together and willingly serve with great patriotism. They serve not just for their families and friends, but serve on behalf of all Americans, many they will never meet. We are reminded that freedom comes with a cost, it is nothing to take for granted and is something that Americans will have to continue to step up and fight for in the years to come.
Looking back at our history, household names began their lives as young adults with a commitment to our country. So many from our own communities have stepped up so we can enjoy the freedoms that we have today. Whether you are a farmer, a factory worker, football player, former President, casino worker, or a student just out of High School who joined the military so our country remains free and the best on earth- thank you for your service and may God shed on you so many blessings!
