International Overdose Awareness Day-August 31st

Tuesday, August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day. Opioid abuse has been plaguing our nation for decades, with the emergence of Covid-19, numbers have been increasing across the country due to associated shutdowns and isolation producing record-high levels of overdoses and deaths. I have been an advocate for those who suffer from addiction and will continue to find ways to address this ongoing crisis.
With local partners like Griswold Pride, we have been able to begin the expansion of the CRISIS Pilot Program Initiative across Connecticut. This program aims to combat the opioid crisis and mental illness and functions as a collaborative effort between both state and local law enforcement, mental health professionals, and community partners to provide individuals battling addiction with treatment options.
International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on 31 August each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death.
