State Representative Lanoue Reacts to PURA Decisions Affecting Electric Vehicle Rate Recovery Costs

“The decision by PURA to approve an $80 million dollar increase to upgrade the EV charging grid on Wednesday is reprehensible. This is a slap in the face to hard-working families across the state of Connecticut.

The current state is a reflection of the impact of extensive government overreach by liberal democrat policies, such as putting Connecticut on California energy standards.

Over these past few weeks, I have been hearing from concerned constituents across our district. They are frustrated, upset, and are demanding for action to be taken by the legislature. I am with you 100%.

As the voice for the people in the 45th District, I once again urge the governor and majority leadership to call the House and Senate into a special session to work on the behalf of the people. We are facing an affordability crisis that simply no longer can be ignored.” – State Representative Brian Lanoue

Statement from House Republican Leader Vincent J. Candelora and Senate Republican Leader Steven Harding on the PURA RAM decisions affecting electric vehicle rate recovery costs:

“PURA’s actions today underscore how policies put forth by Democrat-controlled state government have serious consequences for Connecticut’s consumers and taxpayers. These rate adjustments for Eversource and United Illuminating of an additional $80 million starting in September to enhance the EV charging grid will further burden ratepayers already struggling to pay their monthly electric bills.

Republicans want clean air and a healthy environment. We will continue to fight for consumer choice instead of EV mandates.

Republicans also continue to demand that the governor call lawmakers into special session as soon as possible. Pass smart energy policies that lead to rate stability. Do something to help Connecticut families and job creators who desperately need relief. Stop the bleeding.”

Last week, state Republicans called for a special session to tackle high electric rates in Connecticut.

To date, House and Senate Republican Leadership have sent two letters to the Governor’s Office concerning utility rates. For more, see the images below.
