CT Veterans Hall of Famer John Waggoner Receives Legislative Citation

On April 12th at the Norwich Veterans Coffee Hour, I was proud to present a legislative citation with State Representative Doug Dubitsky (R-47) to Preston resident and my constituent John Waggoner. John was inducted into the CT Veterans Hall of Fame on January 19th.

Both State Senator Heather Somers (R-18) and I were honored to introduce this citation to the General Assembly. John is Navy Veteran who served on a destroyer when enlisted in service in May of 1965. He was known for introducing many innovative ideas to the department while in service and continues to advocate for many veterans’ issues to this day. Currently, John’s advocacy continues serving as president of the Norwich Area Veterans Council. I want to thank John for his lifetime of service and dedication to our country!

    April Ledyard Rotary Meeting

On the morning of April 13th, I joined State Representative Greg Howard (R-43) to address the Ledyard Rotary on some of the legislative issues facing us this session. The topics ranged from our proposal to repeal the Highway Usage Tax (HUT), fighting proposals that attempt to indoctrinate our school children, burdensome unfunded mandates, commuting the sentences of violent criminals, and more initiatives to preserve and grow Connecticut’s farms & agricultural industry. Special thanks to my friend and former Ledyard State Representative Mary McGrattan for moderating this event. I look forward to another visit in the future.

    Griswold Mobile Food Pantry Event

Also on April 13th, I greatly enjoyed taking part in the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center mobile food pantry at Griswold High School. The pantry was able to successfully serve 183 Griswold families. Food donations for Griswold’s mobile pantry can be dropped off at the United Way of Southeastern CT, 374 Broadway, New London between 7:30am-2pm Monday-Friday. I want to thank the amazing team of Griswold Volunteers who came out on that day, and every month to help serve their neighbors and community. God bless your caring hearts!

No matter how many years pass, that day—and the days that followed—will always remain etched in our hearts as one of the most challenging times for many of us as Americans. I […]
