HARTFORD – On Tuesday, State Representative-Elect Brian Lanoue (R-Griswold, Lisbon Plainfield, Sterling, Voluntown) was given his committee assignments by House Republican Leader Rep. Themis Klarides for his first term in office, which will begin on January 9th, 2019. Rep.-Elect Lanoue will serve on the joint Banking, Commerce and Energy & Technology Committees.

“I am thrilled to be going to Hartford in January to begin working on the people’s behalf, and I thank Rep. Klarides for these appointments,” said Rep.-Elect Lanoue. “I am committed to bringing new employers to eastern Connecticut and look forward to working with my colleagues on the Commerce Committee as we drive more economic development to our region. I also look forward to serving on the Banking and Energy & Technology Committees in an effort to restore private sector confidence in the Nutmeg State. We have a long session ahead of us, but the State of Connecticut needs fresh ideas now more than ever. I am confident that we can turn things around and regain our financial footing.”

“Committee work is the engine of our legislative process—it’s when citizens can have their say on issues important to them, and it’s when legislators like Brian Lanoue make the most difference for the people they serve as bill concepts take shape and are eventually debated,” House Republican Leader Themis Klarides said. “I’m confident that Brian will contribute greatly to conversation here in Hartford during the upcoming legislative session.”

Lanoue, a small business owner and eastern Connecticut native, was elected to the state House of Representatives in November, and will succeed outgoing Republican State Representative Kevin Skulczyck. Lanoue is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University (BA), and received his masters degree in Public Policy from Southern Connecticut State University.

The General Assembly will convene in early January for a five-month session ending at midnight on June 5th. In odd-numbered years, legislators must vote on a biennial state budget, which they must pass before they adjourn.
