Statement from State Representative Brian Lanoue on Extension of Emergency Powers:
I want to express my strong opposition to today’s signed declaration by Governor Lamont extending his unilateral authority of both the civil preparedness and public health emergency Executive Powers now until April 20, 2021. The legislature is back in session and has made it among its top priorities to attack our Second Amendment & parental rights, target pregnancy care centers and continuing to bloat state bureaucracy.
However, not to debate and vote on the Executive Orders and the effects it is having on millions of people’s livelihoods and our very way of life as a result of these unilateral decisions by the Governor for the past ten months, is unacceptable. I want to echo my support for House Republican Leader Vin Candelora and Republican Leadership in their attempts to hold public hearings followed by full legislative body votes to either accept or reject many of these Executive Orders. I will continue to advocate and push legislation to reign in these Executive Powers. This is a system of checks and balances and it’s high-time the state legislature starts doing the job the people elected us all to do.
