Representative Brian Lanoue Named to Needs of Persons with Intellectual Disability Task Force

HARTFORD—State Representative Brian Lanoue (R-45) today announced that he has been named to the Public Health Committee’s Needs of Persons with Intellectual Disability Task Force. The task force will hold their first meeting of the year, which will be in-person on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 1:00pm in Room 1B of the Legislative Office Building. The last time the task force met was in February of 2020, prior to the closure of the State Capitol complex.

In 2018, Special Act No. 18-2 was introduced by the Public Health Committee and passed through the legislature unanimously then was signed into law. The Needs of Persons with Intellectual Disability Task Force was created to study how services and needs are provided to adults with intellectual disabilities. This will include evaluating resources for adults with significant behavioral health issues or issues related to aging that includes Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other related disorders in the short, and long-term.

State Representative William A. Petit, Jr. a Ranking Member on the Legislature’s Public Health Committee, designated Representative Lanoue to represent the House Republican Caucus on the task force.

“I am pleased to use my appointment on Representative Brian Lanoue,” Rep. Petit said. “I believe he is highly motivated and will use his position on this task force to help provide useful recommendations and insight into ways to improve access to support services for individuals with developmental disabilities.”

“I am very honored to accept this position on this task force, charged with a very important mission on examining the needs of those with intellectual disabilities. It is vitally important that we as a state get this right, first, on identifying what those short and long-term needs are and ensure those services and support mechanisms are being administered properly and effectively,” Rep. Lanoue said. “ I will take my work very seriously on this task force and very much look forward to being a part of the discussions, that hopefully lead to solutions on this very important topic,” he added.
