Bill Passes House with Broad Bipartisan Support
“It’s no secret that the opioid epidemic has taken a disproportionate toll on Northeastern Connecticut. Fortunately, the General Assembly has taken a step towards correcting this narrative. H.B. 5642, An Act Establishing a Task Force to Examine a State Funding and Service Disparity in Northeastern Connecticut, passed the House yesterday with broad bipartisan support.
I was proud to cosponsor this legislation, which will hopefully lead to more funding in our region of the state to assist in the fight against drug overdoses. This bill will go a long way towards helping those battle addiction and mental illness, as well as my initiative to expand the CRISIS program into Troup D.
Thank you to all the members who supported this bill, the local and statewide organizations that have made resources available to those in need, the volunteers, and especially the families who have shared their personal stories and have turned their grief into action. You have made an immeasurable difference in the lives of so many. The battle continues, but we are going to see this through until the day where not one single person loses their life to a drug overdose.”
