On Tuesday morning, I, along with Griswold First Selectman Dana Bennett, and Tom Giard from Pachaug Pond Weed Control Association, met with representatives from DEEP. We were given a tour and status update on the State’s Pachaug Pond Dam Project, which has been under construction since September. DEEP along with the contractors from Northern Construction and Macchi Engineers who are constructing the new dam, gave us an in depth look at the scope of work that has been going on. This new construction includes an increased height of the dam, a new fishing platform, a new boat ramp, and riprap erosion protection.

First Selectman Bennett and I emphasized to DEEP and the contractors how vital Pachaug Pond is to Griswold residents and the local economy. Our local businesses including grocery stores, restaurants, the camping & hospitality industry, and of course, specialty and accessory shops rely heavily on Pachaug Pond to stimulate commerce.  We will continue to advocate and work with DEEP to do whatever we can to get Pachaug normalized as soon as possible.
