On Wednesday, I spoke in strong opposition to S.B. No. 1194. This bill, in its presents form, would allow anyone convicted of ANY sex crime, prior to 1998 (and has not been convicted of any other sex crimes), would be removed from the CT Sex Offender Registry.
The arguments from the proponents of this bill say that present law is unfair to the sex offenders because the registry was not in existence at the time of their offenses. Again, this would allow those who have been convicted of some of the most heinous sex crimes against women and little children, to be removed from this list. The bill has been tabled for now, and I hope it stays there.
It’s time we start putting the rights of women and children ahead of rapists and child molesters.
