One of the best parts about being a state legislator is recognizing the many high-achieving students in the 45th District. Today, Senator Heather Somers and I presented a legislative citation to Sterling Community School student Brianna Gervais who was selected as National Junior Grange Female Ambassador at the 153rd Annual National Grange Convention in Minnesota.

Brianna earned a first place finish and Best of Show for her creative writing entry, “My Hero,” about her cousin…, Lillian Sharpe, who is battling leukemia. She also placed first and Best of Show for a felt board she made about a book, “Three Billy Goats Gruff.” To top it off, she won the Dairy Awareness Award, was named National Junior Granger of the Year for her 220 hours of community service, and received the top “Gold” award and a cape of honor.

For her many accomplishments, Brianna will be traveling to other conferences and events throughout 2020 where she will continue to build upon her impressive leadership skills.

Great job, Brianna! Keep up the great work. You make us all proud!
