Rep. Lanoue Receives Perfect 2019 Voting Score from CBIA

HARTFORD – State Representative Brian Lanoue (R-Griswold, Lisbon Plainfield, Sterling, Voluntown) received a perfect 2019 voting score from the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. Members were evaluated by their votes on issues like a mandatory paid family/medical leave program funded by a 0.5% payroll tax, raising the state’s minimum wage to $15/hour by 2023, manufacturing careers, the Transfer Act, state-run healthcare, and the state budget, among other items.

“As co-owner of a small, family-run business I understand how difficult it is to operate and remain profitable in a state with high taxes and burdensome regulations,” said Rep. Lanoue. “Recently, I met with a local business owner who is unsure if Connecticut is still the best place to grow their company now that there is a new 12-week paid leave requirement, which poses both financial and operational challenges for small-to-mid sized firms. While I support the concept of paid family and medical leave, I do not support mandates on employers. Overall, our state’s economy is still recovering from the Great Recession, and I believe many of these anti-business bills will lead to loss of jobs and even job creators. I introduced pro-business legislation, and will continue to fight against any proposal that discourages growth and innovation in our great state.”
