Agriculture is a huge part of our economy in eastern Connecticut, and especially in the 45th District. That is why I cosponsored Raised Bill 5337, An Act Concerning the Processing of Rabbits for Consumption.
On Friday, I had the privilege of testifying with Olivia Benson, co-owner of Foxview Farm and a constituent of mine from Lisbon, who did an outstanding job explaining why we need a formal inspection process for rabbit meat under the CT Department of Agriculture (DoAG).
I submitted this bill to help farmers in our state by creating a more business-friendly regulatory environment, and it is my hope that similar proposals will follow because our agricultural workers and entrepreneurs need us to act so they may continue serving their customers – which includes all of us.
I’d like to thank DoAG Commissioner Bryan Hurlburt and Rep. Doug Dubitsky for their support on this bill, and everything they do for farmers across Connecticut.
