Rep. Lanoue Defends Second Amendment Rights, Testifies Against Proposed Tax on Ammo

Yesterday, I testified before the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee on a bill (H.B. 5040), which would establish an excise tax on ammunition at a rate of 35 percent per pound. Law abiding citizens and small business owners who sell ammunition do not deserve this.
Most people in the 45th District exercise their Second Amendment rights for the purposes of hunting, sport, or protecting their property and families.
We need to focus on the people who commit crimes. We need to consider stiffer sentences, especially for those who use firearms to commit crimes and those trafficking guns, and most importantly, the mental health piece – why people are committing crimes, what are the warning signs, and what are the best ways to identify those signs and report it.
