Yesterday afternoon, I joined Governor Lamont for a bill signing ceremony for Special Act 19-10, which establishes a task force to make recommendations to address unreasonably contested workers’ compensation claims.
Far too often, insurance companies will delay payments to insured employees who depend on these benefits to cover their living expenses while they are unable to work. These underhanded practices are disgraceful, and must be addressed.
Earlier this year, I testified before the Labor Committee with my constituent, Mark Wickerd, a Griswold resident, who suffered a major injury while serving as a fire fighter. He needed surgery, but it was unnecessarily delayed for over a year. Mark continues to struggle because of the incident, but he is fighting alongside myself and others to change the system.
