Plainfield Veterans Park Refurbished Tank Ceremony

Plainfield Veterans Park Refurbished Tank Ceremony

I was honored to participate in Saturday’s celebration on the unveiling of the refurbished Stuart M5A1 World War II Tank at Veterans Park in Plainfield. An amazing team effort between Plainfield’s town leaders, veterans, our business community and young people who all came together to make this project such a success. Special acknowledgement to the students at Plainfield High School’s Connections Program and the Brotherhood of Tanks for all your hard work.

These tanks were originally manufactured between 1941-1944, one of the companies that produced this type of tank was General Motors and these tanks used twin Cadillac V8 automobile engines to power them. Less than 9,000 of these tanks were manufactured and saw combat during World War II in the North Africa Campaign, Italy and proved very valuable in the Pacific Theatre against the Japanese.  Even in the driving rain on Saturday, many came together to honor the hands that built these tanks, the soldiers who fought, and the members of the community that came together to restore a piece of history that will always remind us of those that have sacrificed so much for this country.

Great job Plainfield, such a great example of what America is all about, God bless you all!
