    Griswold Vietnam-Era Veterans Ceremony

    Griswold Vietnam-Era Veterans Ceremony

The Town of Griswold, along with CT Veterans Affairs, and the Office of the LT Governor hosted a beautiful and touching Vietnam-era Veterans Ceremony event, that I was proud to be part of on behalf of the State of Connecticut and the Town of Griswold. This ceremony was held to officially recognize and thank these honorable men and women for their service during the Vietnam War.

Last week, Vietnam-era veterans and their families from across our area gathered at Griswold High School to be recognized for their selfless service to our country. Along with Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, the Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, State Senator Heather Somers, Griswold First Selectman Tina Falck, we listened to countless stories about these brave men and women about their unique experiences and service history.

Vietnam veterans often faced significant challenges upon returning home, including a lack of support, and understanding of their experiences. What some experienced was a cruel and heartbreaking homecoming that still impacts them to this day regardless of the amount of time that has passed. However, that did not deter many of these brave men and women to continue their legacy of service right here at home. Many went on to serve their communities as police officers, firefighters, public officials, and teachers. Through their experiences they have helped shape future generations to this day.

I want to thank everyone who put this patriotic event together. This was one of the most impactful events I have attended serving as your state representative. We salute our veterans for their commitment to our country.

Thank you for all you do for us and welcome home!
