Griswold Resident Eleanor “Ellie” Landry Reaches Milestone Birthday

People say you should keep your family life separate from politics. On Saturday, I combined the two and could not be happier. I was beyond honored to be able to present a legislative citation to my relative and Griswold resident, Eleanor “Ellie” Landry, to commemorate her 100th birthday. Senator Somers and I introduced this citation from the Connecticut State Legislature, to recognize this amazing milestone. I was also proud to present an official state proclamation from Governor Ned Lamont and a federally recognized certificate from U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal. Ellie is an absolute gem to our family, born as part of the greatest generation, worked in the crucial paper production industry during World War II, later married and raised three children.

After moving to Griswold, Ellie worked at Thermos in Norwich, then for years as a nurse’s aide at the former Summit Nursing Home in Jewett City. She rounded out her years of employment in her late 80’s working the deli at Big Y in Plainfield. Known affectionately by her customers as Eli from the Deli.

She loves playing cards (cribbage), knitting, word puzzles and bingo. At 100 years-old, she solves wheel of fortune puzzles with ease. Ellie has three children, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is a permanent fixture at the Griswold Senior Center attending 5 days a week. She is a loving, caring individual who is always willing and wanting to help others.

To me she is Ellie, my date to many family functions, and the lady credited with teaching me the Macarena.

We love you Ellie, thank you for being all that you are!
