Elimination of Religious Exemption for Childhood Vaccinations Passes in House

Elimination of Religious Exemption for Childhood Vaccinations Passes in House

I sadly report, after a 17-hour debate in the House of Representatives that ended Tuesday morning, H.B. #6423, An Act Concerning Immunizations passed. I voted NO on this bill because it is bad for children, bad for families and bad for the State of Connecticut.

There was no compromising on this terrible legislation, Republicans rolled out several sensible amendments, including the one I called on requiring a full legislative vote before DPH can add any new childhood vaccines to the mandated schedule. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, we simply didn’t have the numbers to stop the bill’s final passage.

From here the bill advances to the Senate. If this bill passes and is signed by the governor, children younger than kindergarten age will not be able to attend public or private school unless they comply with the vaccine schedule. This bill is an assault of religious and individual freedoms and ultimately, the ones that will suffer the most is our children.

I urge you to contact members of the Senate and the governor to share your thoughts with them. There are so many concerning pieces of legislation that the Democrats are trying to ram through the legislature, we need every voice to be heard on these important matters that will impact our way of life in the years to come.
