Armed Forces Day 2021

On Saturday, May 15th, we celebrated Armed Forces Day in a very special way. It was my honor to attend a Tractor Dedication to U.S. Army Corporal Ryan Salvas of Sterling. Cpl. Salvas is a Afghanistan combat veteran who sustained service-connected injuries over a decade ago. The dedication was made possible by Work Vessels for Vets, which is described as a Connecticut based, national nonprofit dedicated to awarding equipment to injured veterans who are starting a new business. You can learn more by visiting their website at wvfv.org.
Cpl. Salvas founded Radical Roots CT, a 300- acre family farm where he raises livestock and helped to save endangered livestock breeds. Over the last 5 years he has done work around the farm by hand, while also taking care of his heard that includes sheep, hogs, Lincoln Red cows, among others.
State Senator Heather Somers and I had the pleasure of awarding a General Assembly Citation to Cpl. Salvas at today’s event. The dedication and sacrifices that our Veterans make for our country know no limits. Being able to spend time with them at different events across our District is one of the most rewarding parts of being an American and a state legislator.
Thank you to all who serve and thank you to Cpl. Salvas for his service, the WVFV, Canterbury and Lyme/Old Lyme VFW Posts for making this all possible on this beautiful Saturday.
