A Milestone for Griswold Fire Chief Tom Holowaty

Congratulations to Fire Chief Tom Holowaty on his 40 years of volunteer fire & EMS service to the Town of Griswold. Chief Halowaty’s incredible record of public service during his time at the Jewett City, Griswold, and Mohegan Tribal Fire Departments is an accomplishment within itself. In his four decades of service in our local area beginning in 1983, Chief Halowaty served in various capacities as both a certified firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT). He climbed the ranks in the fire service by first being promoted to a training officer, and quickly rose through the ranks of the fire service serving as a lieutenant, captain, and district chief. In 2007, he was appointed as deputy fire marshal, and burn control officer in town where he currently serves in that capacity. In 2013, Tom was elected the 9th Chief of department and serves the residents of Griswold to this day.
The selflessness, time away from family, and uncertainty of what each call will present is truly why we refer to our first responders as heroes – a title that Chief Halowaty has earned. Thank you for your dedication, bravery, and countless lives you saved. It was my true honor to have presented Chief Halowaty with a legislative citation introduced by Senator Somers and myself, to commemorate this amazing milestone.
