45th District Memorial Day Events

On Monday, it was an honor attending two beautiful Memorial Day events at Fanning Park in Jewett City and Voluntown. The weather was perfect for the hundreds of residents that gathered to pay respect to the women and men of the United State Armed Forces that have given their lives to preserve and defend our freedom throughout our history.
Since the very founding of this nation, people have come from every corner of the world to the United States because our reputation is the greatest country on earth. Many people from many different backgrounds have come to our country and laid down their own lives to keep our great nation strong and resilient. As Americans, do we have our differences? Of course we do, and we must both embrace and discuss those differences. But we must also celebrate our common bond as one America, one people, under one flag. What makes America so special that allows us to openly disagree and also come together in the name of freedom!
I would like to thank all who marched, the local officials, and of course – our Veterans who did such a wonderful job with the festivities over the weekend. Although another Memorial Day has come and passed, we must always remember that freedom isn’t free.
