Today, as we celebrated our first responders at the Capitol, it was fitting that we also passed H.B. 7408. This legislation will analyze PILOT funding to towns that are home to state-owned forests like Pachaug.
This forest takes up 66% of Voluntown’s land, meaning that 66% cannot be taxed. Still, Voluntown’s firefighters and EMTs must respond to emergencies on the property, which comes at a cost to the local government.
I was raised to believe that if you own 66% of something, you bear 66% of the responsibility. I want to provide adequate funding to Voluntown so they may provide critical services to their residents and visitors from around the state.
