Dear friends and neighbors,

I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very safe, healthy, and Happy New Year. As 2019 comes to a close, I also wanted to update you on new taxes and laws that will be taking effect on January 1, 2020.

Some of these new taxes include:

  • Dry Cleaning – Existing state sales tax rate will be expanded to dry cleaning services & laundry services
  • Parking – Existing state sales tax rate will be expanded to parking fees
  • Interior Design Service – Existing state sales tax rate will be expanded to interior design services
  • Safety Apparel – Tax exempt status on safety apparel will be repealed, subjecting these items to existing sales tax rate (reflective vests, protective gloves, etc.)

Republicans in the House fought against tax increases proposed by Gov. Lamont and his fellow Democrats during the 2019 Legislative Session and I ultimately voted against these taxes.

New legislation typically goes into effect on January 1st, July 1st, and October 1st of each year. To see the full list of new taxes and laws that will go into effect on January 1, 2020 you can click here.

As always, if you have any questions you may contact my office at 860-240-8700.

Here’s to a great 2020!

Sincerely,

Themis
