HARTFORD – House Republican Leader Themis Klarides today praised the passage in the House of a bill that mandates that public school students are educated on issues of the Holocaust and other genocides in history.
The measure was approved by a 147-0 vote following a debate.
“I stand in strong support of this bill,” Klarides said on the floor of the House. “Obviously this is a very important matter and it says a lot about who we are as a society.’’
Some studies have shown that up to 40 percent of people polled cannot identify what the Holocaust was or offer any details. Other surveys have shown that high percentage of those polled don’t believe the Holocaust occurred.
