Always a strong advocate for women, especially women in government, State Representative Nicole Klarides-Ditria took part in the annual American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program, where high school seniors spend nearly a week learning about the political process by actively running a mock government.
Rep. Klarides-Ditria was joined by Rep. Carpino at the University of New Haven host site, and Rep. Rutigliano took part in the Boys State program being held in a different building on campus.
For this workshop session on “Bill Writing”, more than 100 girls from all over the state, including several from Derby and Seymour, were able to hear directly from Reps Klarides-Ditria and Carpino. The veteran lawmakers shared personal experiences and discussed tips and techniques to craft legislation that makes an impact. Following brief remarks, they answered questions then went around the room to work one-on-one with students who were working on individual bill proposals to be debated during a mock legislative session at the end of the program.
