State Approves Grants To Encourage Transit-Oriented Development in Seymour, 5 other localities

In a press release earlier today, Governor Lamont announced the release of $6.8 million in state grants to fund seven projects in six municipalities across Connecticut under a competitive grant program that supports transit-oriented development and is targeted at boosting economic activity and creating jobs.
Seymour will receive a grant for $686,770 for “land acquisition and pre-development activity” of a vacant parcel across from the Seymour Metro North Waterbury Branch Line railroad station.
The grants, administered by the Office of Policy and Management (OPM), are part of the state’s Transit-Oriented Development Grant Program, which provides grants for shovel-ready capital projects located within one-half mile of existing public transportation facilities and promotes the development of infrastructure with the goal of creating walkable, mixed-use spaces that support vibrant, sustainable, and equitable communities.
According to the release, the town will be tasked with preparing the site for development, selecting qualified developers to enter into a joint-development agreement for a mixed-use transit-oriented development project.
“I want to thank the governor and OPM for awarding this grant to Seymour and for understanding the importance of smart, targeted development that enhances and preserves the character of the surrounding area and infrastructure currently in place,” Rep. Klarides-Ditria said. “This project will further enhance Seymour’s beautiful downtown area while also providing a boost to businesses and visitors to the Valley.”
