HARTFORD – State Senator George Logan (R-17) and State Representative Nicole Klarides-Ditria (R-105) applauded the General Assembly’s passage of legislation yesterday which will enable the town of Beacon Falls to move the Rimmon Schoolhouse to preserve the historic building.

On Monday, in a special legislative session, lawmakers approved a bill to enable the state to convey property at the end of North Main Street to the town which will become the new home for the schoolhouse. Currently, the Rimmon Schoolhouse sits on private property at 101 Pinesbridge Road and was built between 1779 and 1830. It was used as a school until the 1950s. The town will now work to determine the best way to move the schoolhouse and perform needed repairs.

“This is exciting news for Beacon Falls,” said Sen. Logan, who toured the schoolhouse in November and pledged to help transfer the state owned land to the town to make the move possible. “I want to thank everyone who worked together to help support our town in preserving this local piece of history. I am glad the state recognized our need and the importance of this land conveyance to move this project forward.”

“Sen. Logan and I are thrilled that the state is taking the necessary steps to give Beacon Falls the ability to move the Rimmon Schoolhouse,” said Rep. Klarides-Ditria. “This project is important to the town and the residents of Beacon Falls and I want to applaud the work of all the stakeholders who worked hard to make this happen.”

The legislation now awaits the governor’s signature.
