Rep. Klarides-Ditria: “State government needs to let municipalities and their residents decide if regionalization makes sense.”
HARTFORD – State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria released the following statement regarding a Democrat proposal to regionalize school districts based on the current Probate Judge map, which would create two new regional school districts in the 105th district.
Under the bill, S.B. 454, Woodbridge, Derby, Ansonia, and Seymour would become a school district and Beacon Falls, Prospect, Naugatuck, and Middlebury would become a school district.
“The state shouldn’t be forcing municipalities into regionalization,” said Rep. Klarides-Ditria. “Many communities in our district already regionalize services and are looking at additional ways to save money. State government needs to let municipalities and their residents decide if regionalization makes sense.”
As of now, the bill only excepts districts that regionalize K-12. The bill is now before the Education Committee.
