Rep. Klarides-Ditria, Sen. Berthel Express Concerns about Anti-Business Legislation to Seymour Business Owners and Residents

SEYMOUR – State Representative Nicole Klarides-Ditria and State Senator Eric Berthel met with local residents and business owners last week to discuss legislation that passed this session that will impact businesses small and large.

“As a small business owner I think it is deeply concerning to see the majority party continue to pass legislation that will negatively impact businesses,” said Rep. Klarides-Ditria. “Our business climate in Connecticut isn’t friendly and the more anti-business bills that our passed the more jobs that we are going to see leave the state. We need to make every effort to make our state more business friendly.”

“Connecticut continues to be unfriendly to businesses as they all took some additional hits in this past session,” said Sen. Berthel. “We felt it was necessary to reach out to business owners in our district to help them understand and comply with the new taxes and regulations passed by the Democrat majority. We continue to fight against these anti-business, regressive policies in Hartford and we wish we had better news. Hopefully the state will start treating our businesses like assets instead of piggy banks.”

The business owners and residents who attended expressed their concerns with the forced payroll tax to fund paid family and medical leave and the increase in the minimum wage.

Rep. Klarides-Ditria and Sen. Berthel said that both of their caucuses have put forward proposals to help small business owners and not force more taxes and filing fees on them. The majority party this year passed a Republican proposal to eliminate the business entity tax but raised business filing fees.
