Rep. Klarides-Ditria Reacts to Gov. Lamont’s Budget

Rep. Klarides-Ditria Responds to Governor Lamont’s Budget Proposal
HARTFORD – State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria released the following statement in response to Governor Ned Lamont’s budget address to the General Assembly.
“The governor’s budget contains few solutions that will solve our fiscal crisis. It contains billions in tax increases on hard-working families, 50 plus tolls throughout the state on all drivers, and penalizes hospitals like Griffin. We need a budget that focuses on improving our business climate and growing the middle class, and I don’t see this budget getting us there,” said Rep. Klarides-Ditria.
Rep. Klarides-Ditria added, “Republicans have brought many solutions to the table over the years and will continue to do so. I look forward to working with my colleagues to find ways that we can pass a budget that doesn’t include tolls and will help taxpayers.”
Governor Ned Lamont’s budget includes the following proposals:
– Tolls
– Plastic bag tax: 10 cent tax,
– Sugary beverage tax: 1.5 cents per ounce
– Liquor bottle deposit (25 cents), Nickle deposit on nips
– 75 percent tax on E-Cigarette liquid
– Sales Taxes on non-prescription drugs, dry cleaning, barber shops, beauty salons, veterinary services, parking, sports/recreation instruction and industries. And, professional services, including legal, accounting interior design, real estate, computer and data processing.
– Shift retirement contributions from state to municipalities. Most towns pay 25 percent. Distressed municipalities pay 5 percent.
– Cuts state bonding by over $600 million
– Restores property tax credit to everyone
– Eliminates the Business entity tax
– Paid FMLA funded by a payroll tax
– $15 Minimum Wage Increase
