Klarides Sisters Say Closing Derby DMV Service Center will Increase Wait Times Across State

Klarides Sisters Say Closing Derby DMV Service Center will Increase Wait Times Across State

DERBY- The Department of Motor Vehicles announced on Wednesday their decision to temporarily close both the Derby and Milford DMV service centers due to long wait times. House Republican Leader Themis Klarides and State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria released the following statements regarding the DMV’s decision to shut down service at the Derby service center location today.

“DMV’s issue with long wait times is not something new,” said House Republican Leader Themis Klarides. “Waiting hours at the DMV has been a chronic issue that DMV has continually ignored. Shutting down the Derby and Milford small service centers will not solve this issue and will only cause more problems and headaches for residents throughout the state. The DMV’s inability to provide core services to taxpayers proves that the time to privatize services and make structural changes to the DMV is now.”

“The closure of these two small branch locations is unnecessary and a poor decision by DMV,” said Rep. Klarides-Ditria. “Valley residents will now have to travel farther and wait in longer lines for simple services that should take minutes not hours. It is time for the state to start looking at ways to privatize services and to get back to the negotiating table with AAA to work out a deal to have them start providing services in New Haven and Fairfield counties again.”

Both branch offices will close their doors on July 24th. DMV is directing customers who use the Milford and Derby branches to other nearby full-service offices in Hamden, Bridgeport, and Waterbury.
