Since the start of this unprecedented time, I have pushed for a measured, transparent, public and science-based response by state officials. Unfortunately, the governor has run the state through Executive Orders and mandates, including forcing students to wear masks in school despite numerous studies showing the detrimental effects they are having on our children.
For nearly two years – and through six extensions of his powers – the governor has conveniently sidestepped the legislature’s role as the elected voice of the people and a co-equal branch of government. Now, with those powers expiring in days, he’s hoping the General Assembly will codify 11 of his Orders into law.
To be clear, I do not support another extension to his powers, and I am calling for public hearings on each separate Order before a vote is taken, including those that affect whether children are forced to wear masks in school. As parents, you deserve to have a say and I will continue to fight for your rights.
