(HARTFORD) — On Monday, State Representative Kathy Kennedy (R-119) proudly testified on behalf of her constituent, Julie Nash, before the Judiciary Committee in support of House Bill 5423: An Act Concerning Fertility Fraud. This bill seeks to prohibit a physician from using their own sperm to inseminate a patient without the patient’s consent.
In her testimony, she shares Nash’s story who discovered that her mother was unknowingly inseminated by a physician’s sperm, with the intent of using medically cleared sperm. Since this discovery, Nash has become an advocate for many other women and residents who face shame and discrimination from this non-consensual behavior.
