State Rep. Kathy Kennedy: State Budget Update

State Rep. Kathy Kennedy: State Budget Update

    Dear Friends,

This past week the Appropriations Committee passed their spending plan and the Finance committee passed a revenue package. Unfortunately, the budget and tax package proposals lack the bipartisanship that existed last session when the numbers in the House of Representatives and the State Senate were more balanced.

You can watch the debate on the Appropriations Committee, here and read the spending plan here.

The Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee where we debated the proposed tax package, you can watch here and you can read the tax plan here.

Normally the spending plan and tax package match up to make a completed state budget plan but in this case some of the spending policies are funded with revenues not provided in the revenue package.

The next step in the process is for legislative leaders and the governor to sit down and negotiate a final state budget plan. I will remain hopeful the governor will work to bring both parties together to craft a bipartisan budget that improves Connecticut’s economic future.

Next week the House is scheduled to be in session to consider and vote on bills, May 7th, 8th and 9th. You can watch the house debate on those days here: CT-N.

You can find a list of bills on the Go List, here.

Why I Voted “NO” on the State Budget

Last night, I stood against the State Budget proposal that overspends money we don’t have, raises taxes on businesses and consumers, and makes our state more unaffordable over the next two years. Remember: This budget is a 700+ page document that addresses a wide variety of issues, many of which do NOT reflect our desires […]

Today, I proudly stood with members of the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity, & Opportunity (CWCSEO) and colleagues on the Transportation Committee in support of HB 7159, also known as the Yellow Envelope Bill. This bill will help law enforcement safely communicate with persons who have intellectual and physical disabilities. Each yellow envelope provides […]
