Rep. Kennedy (R-119) Appointed Ranking Member of Transportation Committee

HARTFORD — Last week, Representative Kathy Kennedy was appointed Ranking Member of the General Assembly’s Transportation Committee by House Republican Leader-elect Vincent Candelora (R-86). The role of a Ranking Member is to serve as the leader of the minority party in committee meetings and collaborate with Committee Leadership in proposing bills and legislation.
“I am so grateful for this new challenge in a leadership role on the Transportation Committee,” commented Rep. Kennedy. “As Ranking Member, I look forward to emphasizing the needs and concerns of our district members, especially those who rely upon Connecticut roads daily, such as Interstate-95, Route 1, and Route 15. It is time for the state legislature to prioritize our infrastructure, as well as the safety and travel needs across our beautiful shoreline in Milford and Orange.”
“Kathy has been an outstanding example representative for both sides of the aisle through her service on the Appropriations Committee, Public Health Committee, and Executive Nominations Committee during the recent legislative term.” said Rep. Candelora. “Thousands of residents and families are seeking more affordable transportation alternatives and solutions to current infrastructure demands across our state. I have full confidence in Kathy to take on new initiatives and work with members of the House Majority to approach constituent needs with bipartisan support. Her exemplary ability to collaborate with local and municipal government while balancing larger-scale issues at the state level makes her fit to lead in this role as a legislator.”
The responsibility of the Transportation Committee is to oversee matters relating to “the Department of Transportation, including highways and bridges, navigation, aeronautics, mass transit and railroads; and to the State Traffic Commission and the Department of Motor Vehicles,” as described on the state website.
“I want to once again thank all those who have supported me, especially in the most recent November election,” added Rep. Kennedy. “This role will propel me to carry out the goal which initially motivated me to run: to serve my community.”
Rep. Kennedy was re-elected on November 8th, marking her third consecutive term in the General Assembly as a state representative. Aside from her position as Ranking Member on the Transportation Committee, she will also be serving on the Appropriations Committee, Education Committee, and Public Health Committee.
