    (HARTFORD) — Today, I attended a joint Appropriations and Human Services Committee public hearing on Home and Community-Based Services Medicaid Waivers. I strongly support these waivers because they provide care for our most needy citizens including older adults and people with disabilities, including those with an intellectual disability.
    The waivers are designed for adults with serious mental illness as well as those with disabilities who are being discharged or diverted from nursing home care. These waivers provide participants with the appropriate services and supports necessary to live independently in the community.
