(MILFORD) — On Friday, State Representative Kathy Kennedy (R-119) was selected to be the newest Connecticut State Director for Women in Government (WIG). Each year, the federal organization recognizes female elected officials in state government across the country that have demonstrated leadership in their state and communities.

For over 30 years, WIG has provided women legislators with policy resources, hosted conferences, travel scholarships, and nationwide presentations working towards the development of policy solutions. In 2022, three female lawmakers on both sides of the aisle were recognized by WIG including State Representative Christie Carpino (R-32), Representative Michelle Cook (D-65), and Representative Robyn Porter (D-94).

“I am so thankful to be recognized by Women in Government for the State Director position,” said Rep. Kennedy in a statement. “I am honored to be acknowledged especially for my work with female organizations in our district as we supplied the necessary hygiene products and resources to women in our community during the pandemic. Having female representation in the General Assembly is critical here, and throughout the United States, as we offer a unique and essential perspective to the legislative process.”

State Directors with WIG are responsible for “cultivating a network of women state legislators that amplify the work of female lawmakers nationwide,” according to their website. Normally, there are up to four State Directors per state, who are each called to engage with WIG programs, events, and communication efforts to expand WIG’s goal in motivating more women to serve in various state governments.

Aside from her position as a State Director with WIG, Rep. Kennedy continues to lead as the Ranking Member of the Transportation Committee and also as a member of the Appropriations Committee, Education Committee, and Public Health Committee. Why I Voted “NO” on the State Budget

Last night, I stood against the State Budget proposal that overspends money we don’t have, raises taxes on businesses and consumers, and makes our state more unaffordable over the next two years. Remember: This budget is a 700+ page document that addresses a wide variety of issues, many of which do NOT reflect our desires […]

Today, I proudly stood with members of the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity, & Opportunity (CWCSEO) and colleagues on the Transportation Committee in support of HB 7159, also known as the Yellow Envelope Bill. This bill will help law enforcement safely communicate with persons who have intellectual and physical disabilities. Each yellow envelope provides […]
